How are data centers managed?

The management of a data center varies depending on who built it and for what purpose it was built. If only one organization owned a data center and used it for its own purposes, what would be running the data center with its own employees and keeping an eye on everything.

One common type is the data center placement function. In this system, companies rent a certain amount of space in a larger space. Tenant is responsible for installation of servers, racks, etc. and maintenance of such equipment. You also have to pay for electricity and cooling, but the basic electricity and cooling infrastructure with raised decks is typically provided by the space owner. With colocation, the owner of the space is responsible for the maintenance and security of the entire building.

Another common scenario is when a company rents from all central suppliers. The property owner owns and maintains everything in the data center, which allows the organization to purchase or use space on the server.
